Six-storey building in Karachi’s Ranchor Lane collapses

A six-storey building in Karachi’s Ranchor Lane area collapsed on Monday, but there was no loss of life reported as the complex had been evacuated in advance.

The building had 24 flats and a couple of warehouses. It was built 12 years ago.

Utility connections to the residential complex had already been disconnected by the authorities.

The building was evacuated in the wee hours of Monday after cracks had appeared in its structure.

The officials present at the site were of the view that substandard material was used in the construction, which led to the building's decrepit state and eventual collapse.

CM takes notice

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has taken notice of the incident and sought report from Karachi Commissioner and Sindh Building Control Authority.

Contingents of Sindh Rangers and police were present on the site to handle the situation.
