Unidentified men hold Advocate Akram Sheikh, family hostage in Islamabad: police

Unidentified men on Friday night barged into the home of Advocate Akram Sheikh and held him and his family hostage at gun point for at least two hours before fleeing with money and valuables, according to a spokesperson of the Islamabad Police. 

The incident, as per the spokesperson, took place in the Shehzad Town area of the capital. The robbers escaped with Rs 0.5-0.6 million in cash, mobile phones, and other valuables. 

The spokesperson of the capital police said that an investigation had been launched and efforts were underway to identify the culprits with the help of Close Circuit Television Camera (CCTV) installed near the house.

"Senior Superintendent Police (Rural) Malik Naeem Iqbal will lead the investigations into the robbery," the police spokesperson told the media, adding that, "the robbers will be arrested as soon as possible". 

Earlier this week, advocate Shiekh had said that unidentified men had been harassing the judges of the superior courts in the wake of a special court's ruling in the high treason against former president General (retired) Pervez Musharraf. 

Sheikh was the chief prosecutor in the case which got the former president sentenced to death for subverting the constitution. Shiekh stepped down as the prosecutor in the case in July 2018.

Prior to the announcement of the verdict, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-led government had removed the prosecution team in the case and appointed a new one led by minister Farogh Naseem.
